Callboy, gigolo, escort: the same thing?

Six words for something that overlaps without matching. What they actually mean, and which one to search with.

Anyone searching for the first time notices quickly: there is no single word. Depending on the term you use, you land in a different world. That is not accidental — these words come from different decades and different milieus.

Gigolo

The oldest term, originally French: a man who danced with and accompanied ladies for payment. Today it usually means a man who accompanies women for a fee, often with an erotic element. It carries something old-fashioned and something elegant at once.

Callboy

The male counterpart to callgirl, and the most direct of the terms. It emphasises availability on call and has a clearer sexual undertone. Someone searching “callboy” is usually looking less for company at an occasion and more for a meeting.

Male escort

The most neutral term and the most common today. The qualifier is what matters: a bare “escort Zurich” leads almost always to offers from women for men. A woman searching gets there far faster with male escort or escort for women.

Toyboy

Colloquial, and mostly about the age gap: a noticeably younger man alongside an older woman. It describes a configuration rather than a service, and is used for private relationships too.

Companion service and companion agency

The plainest terms, and the ones agencies themselves prefer. A companion service for women arranges company for occasions: dinners, events, travel, business obligations. People who use these words are usually looking less for a meeting and more for an evening they do not have to arrive at alone.

So what is the difference?

Honestly, less than the vocabulary suggests. In practice the offerings overlap almost entirely. The difference lies less in what is offered than in tone: someone saying callboy means more direct, someone saying companion service means more formal.

The real difference is elsewhere — between individual providers. Is there a check on who gets accepted? Is there a legal notice? Are boundaries raised without being asked? That determines the quality of an evening, not the label.

Which word to use

For searching: male escort, companion service for women or gigolo plus your city. For the enquiry itself: none. Describe the occasion and the atmosphere you have in mind — that says far more than any category.

FAQ

Is a callboy the same as a gigolo?

In practice they overlap almost entirely. Callboy sounds more direct, gigolo more elegant. The offering is usually the same.

What is the difference between escort and companion service?

None that matters. Escort is simply the word for accompaniment; companion service and agency are the plainer, more formal versions.

Why do I find so little as a woman?

Because a bare escort Zurich shows almost only offers from women for men. Search male escort, escort for women or gigolo instead.
